The Center for Leadership Development in the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment will welcome Kentucky native Jayne Cravens as the W. Norris Duvall Leader in Residence Oct 26-30.

Cravens owns Coyote Communications, which provides training and resources on using social media platforms and online tools to support non-profit organizations and community engagement initiatives both nationally and internationally. She hails from Henderson and currently resides outside of Portland, Oregon.

The Leader in Residence program is a five-day event that brings nationally and world-renowned leaders known for their focus on democracy, engagement and youth and community leadership to UK. The program is sponsored by the W. Norris Duvall Endowment for Youth Leadership, Ethics and Service. The endowment’s mission is to support programs that reinforce the importance of integrity, ethical behavior and a sense of civic engagement through service-oriented leadership initiatives for Kentucky’s youth, college students and community.

During her week-long residence with the Center for Leadership Development, Cravens will speak to students, faculty and various community organizations on the topics of virtual volunteering, using social media to drive social change, and marketing community impact, as well as how to develop local and international leadership community service projects.

“Jayne Cravens is a great fit for the Duvall Leader in Residence program,” said Patricia Dyk, the center’s director. “She brings her international experience working in underserved and impoverished communities for agencies like the United Nations to our students and faculty who are leading change initiatives within Kentucky and abroad.”

Cravens is co-author of The Last Virtual Volunteering Guidebook, and her information and research in this field of social media have been used in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN and the Associated Press, as well as in blogs worldwide. Cravens will share her expertise through various public appearances in Central Kentucky, which include a presentation/discussion on Democratizing Engagement: Leading in a Virtual World at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at The Plantory, 501 W. Sixth Street #250, Lexington.
