Specialists with the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment will host their first Kentucky Agricultural Training School workshop of the year Feb. 18 at the UK Research and Education Center in Princeton.

The half-day event will include weed and soil considerations for the upcoming growing season. UK weed specialists will discuss the science behind how herbicides’ mode of actions control weeds, why herbicide resistance occurs and ways producers can use this information to more effectively plan their herbicide program. Soil specialists will discuss how to take soil samples for precision agriculture-based nutrient applications and how soil test recommendations are developed. Participants will receive a tour of the soils lab at the center, which was part of the UK Grain and Forage Center of Excellence’s upgrades and renovations.

Most of this event will occur indoors, but it may also include a short time outdoors. Participants should dress accordingly.

The program is approved for four continuing education units for Certified Crop Advisers, and pesticide applicators can receive two general and two specific hours in categories 1A, 6, 10 and 12.

Participants can receive a discounted registration rate if they attend three days of KATS in 2020. They can divide the discounted registration between three daylong trainings or two daylong trainings and two half-day trainings.
