Taste of the Mountains Sept. 22
Fall is just around the corner, and the University of Kentucky Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability will usher in the season with a Taste of the Mountains Sept. 22. The full-day event will showcase the region’s many agriculture, nutrition and forest opportunities.
The free field day begins at the UK College of Agriculture’s Robinson Center facilities in Quicksand at 10 a.m. local time.
“We are really focused on providing activities and points of interest for people of all ages,” said David Ditsch, the center’s director. “We want them to get a true sense of everything we do here at the center that supports the industries, farmers and families of Eastern Kentucky and beyond.”
Visitors can enjoy several tours including fall gardens, horticulture, sweet sorghum and the nearby Robinson Forest. The center will showcase pasture renovations, high tunnel construction and production, several youth activities, a quilting display and an area for crafts and exhibits. Participants can take a cutting board workshop, a beef workshop titled Feeding the Cash Cow or a goat artificial insemination workshop. Master Logger continuing education credits are available. There will also be a chainsaw giveaway.
A free lunch featuring Appalachian cuisine will begin at noon. For more information, visit http://www2.ca.uky.edu/rcars/ or call 606-666-2438, ext. 285.
