Pesticide/Pest Management Training is Dec. 20 in Princeton

Topics include: corn and wheat injury with post emergent herbicides; weed control in small fruit crops; soybean seed treatment and soybean aphids; controlling soil insects in corn with new and old technologies; and weed management in horse pastures.

PRINCETON, Ky.—

Pesticide applicators who need continuing education or anyone interested in pest management may want to take a break from last-minute Christmas shopping to attend the Agricultural Pesticide/Pest Management Training Dec. 20 at the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center in Princeton.

Topics include: corn and wheat injury with post emergent herbicides; weed control in small fruit crops; soybean seed treatment and soybean aphids; controlling soil insects in corn with new and old technologies; and weed management in horse pastures.

Additional topics are: strategies for managing kudzu and other invasive weeds in non-cropland and forested areas; crop biosecurity issues for pesticide dealers; fungicide efficacy for soybean rust; applying fungicides to soybeans for plant health; and regulatory and safety issues.

The program has been approved for one pesticide applicator training credit in the following categories: 2, forest pest control; 4, seed treatment; and 12, pesticide sales agent. It has been approved for two credits in category 1, agriculture pest control, and category 10, demonstration and research pest control.

In addition, organizers have applied for certified crop adviser credits in the following areas: pest management, 3 hours; crop management, 1.5 hours; and professional development, 1 hour.
