Small poultry flocks are relatively inexpensive and don’t take up much space or require much time. Many Kentuckians have small flocks for entertainment or for profit. The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment has several instructional videos available for small flock owners.
“Tony Pescatore, UK poultry extension specialist, and I produced two sets of webinars for backyard poultry producers,” said Jacquie Jacob, poultry extension project manager. “The first set is for backyard flock owners who are not selling products and the second set is for small commercial poultry flock owners.”
The small flock, not-for-profit, owners may watch videos about getting started in poultry production, managing a backyard flock, disease prevention and how to manage manure and dispose of dead birds.
Small commercial flock owners may watch videos detailing how to raise replacement pullets, managing an egg-laying flock, raising ducks for egg production, raising chickens for meat production and raising waterfowl for meat production.
All the videos are available on Jacob’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/poultryphd/videos.
Jacob also hosts monthly poultry webinars through extension. Upcoming offerings include:
Sept. 7, 3 p.m. EDT – Preparing backyard poultry flocks for winter
Oct. 5, 3 p.m. EDT – Raising guinea fowl
