Nearly 430 new trees are scheduled to be planted on the University of Kentucky campus over the next year -- about half of them will be planted in key areas around campus and the others will be planted near Alumni Drive as part of a federal flood management project. UK President Eli Capilouto and Vice President for Facilities Management Bob Wiseman announced the major tree planting initiative today near where a new grove of trees will be planted on the lawn in front of UK's Main Building, near South Limestone.

Hannah Angel, a senior forestry major in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, took part in the announcement.  Angel has been involved in a number of other tree-planting and reforestation projects, including planting trees at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pa. She said she is gratified to see UK take a role in increasing the tree canopy throughout campus.

"Trees are major capital assets, and through this tree planting campaign, the University of Kentucky is making a significant investment in the future of our campus ― not only for the purpose of campus beautification, but also for the health of the university community members who work and live here," she said.
