Registration for the 47th Annual Kentucky Turf & Landscape Management Short Course, a collaboration between the University of Kentucky Turfgrass Program and the Kentucky Horticulture Council (KHC), is now open. The annual event is a premier educational opportunity for Kentucky turfgrass professionals.  

This year, meeting organizers have assembled a schedule including over 20 speakers with three educational tracks covering sports turf, golf courses along with lawn and landscape. The event occurs Feb. 20-22 at the Hardin County extension office in Elizabethtown. 

“This is Kentucky’s best turfgrass conference and we are excited to partner with the KHC again this year,” said Kenneth Clayton, UK turfgrass science extension associate. “This is a great opportunity for professional turfgrass and landscape managers to grow professionally and maintain their applicator license. The event is an excellent opportunity to learn and network with other professionals from around the state.”  

UK Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment experts will present sessions on water topics, ornamentals, nutrient management and pest control, which include insect, weed and pathogens). Joining them are specialists from the University of Tennessee, Purdue University and Ohio State University. Authorities from a variety of sporting events will also lead discussions.

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, a pre-conference pesticide training is available, along with certification testing via the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA). Instruction cost is $55. Separate registration for the test directly with KDA is required and the test fee of $25 must be paid to KDA. 

“Kentucky’s green industry is a multi-billion-dollar market, with turfgrass and landscape management businesses contributing to the local economy in urban and rural communities across the state,” said Cindy Finneseth, KHC executive director. “The Short Course is an excellent networking and professional development event with CEUs for green industry professionals.”
