Specialists with the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture will present new and timely topics in pest management during the 2011 Integrated Pest Management Training School March 2 at the UK Research and Education Center in Princeton.
The school begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. CST. There is no cost to attend.
Topics on the program this year include resistant weeds in grain crops, tissue sampling for plant micronutrients, consequences and concerns of nutrient removal, invasive and explosive insect updates, new pesticides and Bt technologies, and corn nematodes and fungicide-resistant frogeye. In addition to the UK specialists, Rick Shanklin, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service , will talk about weather trends and hazardous weather safety.
The school is approved for 2 general and 1 specific hours for pesticide applicators in categories 1A, 10 and 12. It is also approved for 5 continuing education units for certified crop advisors including 2 for pest management and 1 each in crop management, nutrient management and professional development.
