Eastern redcedar might be a bit overlooked, despite it being the most widely distributed conifer in the eastern United States. Chances are, many woodland owners see a lot on their properties, and chances are, they might not know what to do with it. A University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension workshop, "Got Cedar? Now What?" will present landowners with options.

Cooperative Extension, in partnership with the Kentucky Division of Forestry and the Kentucky Association of Consulting Foresters, will offer the workshop March 24 at the extension office in Franklin County and April 12 at the Bracken County extension office. Both sessions are two hours long and begin at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

"Redcedar is often not considered an important commercial species. But its wood has beauty, durability and workability, and it also provides valuable cover, nesting sites and food for many wildlife species," said Billy Thomas, UK extension forester. "With ‘Got Cedar?' we will address marketing options, products from redcedar wood, management, harvesting and sales."

UK Cooperative Extension is sponsoring the workshop, and American Wood Fibers, Arnold Cedar and Timber Sales, Glasscock Log and Lumber and Northern Kentucky Cedar are providing financial assistance.
