Extension agents host 7th Annual Pastures Please!
University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service and UK Ag Equine Programs will host Pastures Please!! 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Scott County Extension office, 1130 Cincinnati Road in Georgetown. The public is invited to the free annual event, particularly horse owners and farm managers interested in the latest information about horse pasture management.
"We are pleased to offer our 7th annual equine Pastures Please!! program this year in Scott County,” said Ray Smith, UK professor and forage extension specialist. “This has been one of the most popular pasture management programs the Extension Service and College of Agriculture, Food and Environment hold each winter. Attendees will hear important management practices they can use to improve their horse pastures.”
This year’s program will feature practical advice about the economics of horse pastures, nutrient management on the horse farm, selecting the right forage variety and an overview of the weeds experts expect this year and methods for controlling them.
A few Central Kentucky extension agents launched the annual educational program in 2007 to provide timely and practical information for area horse owners. It has expanded, and now includes participation from Bourbon, Clark, Fayette, Jefferson, Jessamine, Scott and Woodford counties. Each year a different county hosts the event.
Those interested in attending should RSVP to UK at 859-257-2226 or equine@uky.edu.
